Conte
(The Count). Italian painter, born in
Milan c.
1490, son of
a Lombard aristocrat. At the age of 15
Melzi met Leonardo da Vinci, Melzi
became his pupil and life companion.
In 1513 he accompanied da Vinci to
Rome and in 1517 to France. Melzi was
a talented painter, he worked closely
with and for da Vinci. When da Vinci
died in 1519 the handsome young man
inherited his manuscripts,
instruments, books and drawings. Some
of da Vinci's works are attributed to
Melzi. Melzi died in
Vaprio
d' Addo in 1570. |
